Encompasses 26.4 square miles which is 4th largest in New York State

Goes from Lake Panamoka down to Moriches Middle Island Road in Shirley

Currently has two 55 and over communities

Has 3 major roads (25, 495, William Floyd Parkway)

Has a railroad line that goes through our district

3 schools (Pre-school, elementary, middle school)

Protects over 9,000 residential and commercial buildings

Has a National laboratory that we assist on EMS and fire calls

Borders 12 fire and ambulance districts that activate us when they need help

Borders thousands of acres of pine barren and protected land

Has an airport just outside our district

Protects a police precinct, research facilities and 3 churches

Has 16 group homes in our protection area

Ridge fire district covers a large area and assists many other agencies

New Walk-in Gate Lock On Beach 1

A new walk-in gate lock has been installed at Beach 1.   We hope this new lock provides easier entry and provide better security for the beach.

Here are instructions on how to open & close the gate with the new lock:

Gate Lock Instructions

To Open:

  1. Press C to Clear (Bottom Right)
  2. Enter Code
  3. Turn Knob Clockwise *

To Close:

  1. Close Gate
  2. Turn Knob Counter Clockwise *

 

* If turning knob is difficult gently wiggle gate to reduce pressure on lock or to line it up when closing.

Monitor: Eastern Suffolk Drought Status Upgraded to Moderate – Newsday

As of an update issued Thursday, eastern Suffolk County is now considered to be in the moderate drought category, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. That’s the second least intense of five categories.

Much of Suffolk was deemed to be in severe drought as of July 26 of last year, and most of the rest of Long Island followed suit in mid-September, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center based at Cornell University.
